Leonardo Rousseau was born in Paris and has been living and working in Brussels since 2019.
His relationship with clay began early, inspired by his Italian grandmother, who lived in Switzerland and worked as a ceramicist.
Today, Leonardo focuses primarily on large decorative and sculptural ceramic pieces, while his earlier work also included functional tableware. All his pieces are thrown on the potter’s wheel, where repetition, rhythm and the movement of the hands give rise to unique forms. Subtle irregularities and traces of the process are embraced as part of the work.
His practice is rooted in traditional techniques and continuous experimentation with glazes and firing, seeking depth, warmth and a timeless presence. His work moves between memory and contemporaneity, craft and personal expression.
In 2018, he obtained a CAP in ceramic turning at ATC in Paris and continues to refine his practice through research, workshops and studio work.
